Ahh, now I remember something else that came to mind at the gym: in Red Rabbit, Tom Clancy seems to have name-dropped multiple items/companies/people that are currently famous, such as Cal Ripken and Starbucks. He also mentions the moving of the Baltimore Colts to Indianapolis. Since when has he been a pop culture junky? He definitely established the timetable of the book as 1982, with too many instances that should be almost labeled as inside jokes. Then again, I suppose that's better than reading about his political opinions, most of which I disagree with.
